If You Are A Company Who Is Considering Leasing this Space

If You are a Company who is considering Leasing this potential space, PLEASE KNOW that there has been an intense opposition to this project.

This is our home, our neighborhood, and we are not willing to fade into the sunset or put our heads in the sand. We live here, 24/7, and we continue to be united in preserving the safety and value of our homes. Please be aware: We have nearly 100 signatures of neighbors and local businesses who oppose the building of this Warehouse and the widening of the Susquehanna Trail.

IT IS, AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE, THE DESIRE OF THE NEIGHBORS THAT IF THIS WAREHOUSE IS GOING TO BE BUILT:

  • A MUCH SAFER TRUCK ACCESS BE BUILT VIA CRONE ROAD.
  • SCREENING OF THE WAREHOUSE AND THE PARKING AREAS AND TRUCKS SHOULD EXCEED THE PLAN MINIMUMS, AND SHOULD SEEK TO COMPLETELY SHIELD THE NEIGHBORS FROM SEEING THE WAREHOUSE, THE TRUCKS, AND THE LIGHTS.

****WE WILL KEEP A SHARP WATCHFUL EYE ON YOUR TRUCKS AND ON THE REGULATIONS AND LAWS THAT MUST BE MET. WE WILL NOT HESITATE TO CALL FOR ENFORCEMENT.

For further discussion on these matters, you may contact Darlene Weir, community organizer, via her email : dnweir@hotmail.com

Please put Bear Warehouse in your subject line. Thank you.

Keep up your signs

Hello neighbors,

I have had some neighbors ask me if they should continue to proudly display their No Warehouse yard signs, and the answer is YES!!

If you are willing, continue to display your sign. In the event that a company takes an interest in the property, these signs will alert them to check out this website. At that time, they will find our information, as well as a post about how it is the desire of the residents for the entrance to be moved to Crone Road, as well as for the company to provide as many buffers as possible to shield the neighbors from the impact.

So thank you for continuing to display your signs.

Remember to take heart. It is not over until it is over!!

Disappointed but not Discouraged

We were all saddened last night as the Board of Supervisors of Manchester Township voted to approve of the Warehouse Project.

Our general feeling, with possible exception given to parts of the February meeting at Manchester Township, was that our Representatives did not want to listen to us. We were an 'interference' to their clear agenda. This was strongly communicated through body language in the beginning, and then by blatant requests that we not speak up, or by other attempts at voting quickly - thereby avoiding the public. It is sad that this type of representation is even considered "representation." These are sad times when neighbors can resound that they all felt slighted by those voted to represent us.

We left the meeting astounded that the Supervisors would scold us for not getting legal council. Or getting our own traffic study. Is it not THEIR job to ensure the safety of residents? In fact, they admitted that, had we not protested, they would not have taken some of the minor safety measures they later implemented.

I feel the most compassion for our unfortunate neighbors, Clarence Hare and Roger Lehr, whose quality of home life will be greatly impacted by this decision.

But, we are appreciative of the blessing of neighbors, a passionate effort, and the revitalized neighborhood spirit.

If new news arises, and new meetings occur, we will inform you of such here at NoBearWarehouse.

NEW PETITION and IMPORTANT Update

Hello Friends and Neighbors,

Unfortunately, our Planning commission voted last night to recommend the Susquehanna Distribution Center plans to our Board of Supervisors. This is not the end of our struggle. While we had public outcry, it was felt by nearly all neighbors in attendance that our fears and concerns were not addressed by those who were supposed to represent us.

But this is not over! It does us no use to fuss and complain, yet we must still have our voices heard. What we need is ACTION, and plenty of it!!

We cannot do this alone. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

Here are the newest ACTION ITEMS that you can help with RIGHT NOW!! We MUST act quickly!! We have less than 2 weeks!

1. SIGN OUR NEW PETITION (click here and scroll down and follow the instructions)

2. PUT THE APRIL 13th BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING ON YOUR CALENDAR (Tues. 4/13 at 7PM)! COMMIT TO COMING!

3. VOW TO BRING A FRIEND OR NEIGHBOR WITH YOU TO THE MEETING. Numbers count, and each body counts!

4. CONTACT YOUR BOARD OF SUPERVISOR MEMBERS! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!! SHARE YOUR CONCERNS IN A KIND MANNER! (click here and scroll down to see a list of Supervisors)

Defend Your Own Backyard

I just wanted to encourage the many, many residents who have legitimate concerns about this warehouse!!!

You may find that some do not understand why we are fighting against this. They may very well be the same people who will later complain when they can no longer find a decent way to get onto 83. They may not understand that this warehouse has no guaranteed occupant, no guarantee of jobs, and no guarantee that it will benefit York County residents. But the investors are sure to benefit as they disrupt our water supply, roads, health, safety and well-being.

Nevertheless, regardless of what others do and do not understand, remain vigilent.
  • We KNOW what this will do to the traffic and the already 'failing' intersections. WHY? Because WE live here.
  • We KNOW what this will do to the school buses, the well water supply, and our access to emergency response in Manchester Township. WHY? Because WE live here.
  • We KNOW what this will do to our property values. WHY? Because WE have worked hard and value our homes. NO ONE has the right to tell us that we should not value our homes!!!

Keep talking neighbors. And when you meet a doubter, remember that you are not alone in fighting for your home, your safety, your land, and your well-being.

Contacting the Media

MEDIA INVOLVEMENT!!! THE MORE THE BETTER!!!!!!!!! Contact the media! Let your voice be heard.

Here are ways you can help:

1. PLEASE WRITE A "Letter to the Editor" to the York Paper. This is the most read part of the paper! Please be considerate but firm!!

2. WHEN SPEAKING TO THE MEDIA ABOUT THIS PROJECT, BE SURE TO BRING UP THESE POINTS!!!!!!!:
  • SAFETY ISSUES: School buses, traffic congestion that could interfere with emergency routes and services, increased accidents.
  • TRAFFIC ISSUES: Point out the Board Road/Church Road Bridge backup; The impact traffic will have on all residents and commuters to this area
  • COST ISSUES: the costs that the township will absorb as a result of placing this in an unsuitable location: road widening, road repair, increased emergency services, traffic problems.

Yard Signs and Petition

Our Petition is gaining momentum! If we have not seen you directly, or you have not had the opportunity to sign the petition, scroll down a few posts to find the petition and you can sign it there!

Also, I want to encourage you to put up a yard sign. We can show unity by posting a simple sign in our yards, or on our fences, or mailboxes that simply say: "No Wearhouse!" Feel free to put the NoBearWarehouse.com address on your sign, so that others can get more information.

Thank you, neighbors!!!

Also, SPREAD the WORD. We have several neighbors who do not use the internet, BUT they are opposed to this project. You can help them by passing on information that you find here on this sight, and by encouraging them that they are not alone in their concerns!!

Help Us By Donating Funds

Are you passionate about preventing this HUGE warehouse??? Well, Matt and I are. And we (unfortunately) have to put our money where our mouths are. But, if anyone is willing to help us, the burden will be lighter.

Here is our wish list:

Yard Signs: Signs and Metal Stakes will cost about $100 from the cheapest places I could find online. These signs are SUPER important. It will tell EVERYONE WHO PASSES how to contact this website, and how to get involved. It will present a unified front as EVERY ONE OF US PUT ONE UP!!!! WE ONLY HAVE THREE WEEKS BEFORE THE PLANNING MEETING! Therefore, Matt and I will likely front the money for this. SO, Please HELP US!!!!!!!! Thank you!

Legal Council: Matt and I are in the process of finding out how legitamate our case is. Our inital consultation is going to cost $150. Again, we are unfortunatly going to have to pay all of this. Please consider helping us. If we divide the burden, we can fight for this together.

You can donate even the smallest amount of money by contacting us at

Darlene and Matt Weir
3840 Bear Road
York PA 17406

or
717-818-0711 (leave a message)

Sign Our Petition

We are strongly opposed to the building of a warehouse at the corner of Bear Road and N. Susquehanna Trail. We are unified in defeating this project.
